A man accused of assaulting a Port Arthur police officer is in custody. The officer responded to
a disturbance last night in the 2100 block of Waverly. When he attempted to detain John
Johnson Jr., Johnson began punching the officer. The officer tased Johnson and was still able
to break free and flee the area. He is now jailed. The officer drove herself to the Medical Center
of Southeast Texas for treatment.
