State and county officials say the
construction work to close Rollover Pass could start as soon as
this summer. Rollover Pass connects the Gulf Intracoastal
Waterway with the Gulf of Mexico. The county and the Texas
General Land Office plan to close it because they say it causes
problems with erosion and silting. The Gilchrist Community
Association is fighting the closure in court, but so far is
appealing its latest setback. The plan is to turn the site into
a public park with a fishing pier.
