United States Senator John Cornyn has announced $11 million dollars in federal grant money
is coming to all area Lamar campuses for coronavirus response. Lamar University in Beaumont
is receiving more than $7 million, Lamar Institute of Technology more than $1.8 million, Lamar
State College-Orange and Lamar State College-Port Arthur are receiving just over $1 million.
At least 50% of each grant must go towards providing students with emergency financial aid
grants to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations. In addition,
allowing students to defer their federal student loan payments for six months
