Jury selection begins this morning in the intoxication manslaughter trial of a Port Arthur man.
20-year old Luis Fernando Torres is accused of the August 2020 wreck that killed Beaumont
police officer Sheena Yarbrough-Powell . Torres faces five to 99 years if convicted. He will go
to trial later this year on an intoxication assault charge as Officer Gabriel Fells was injured in
the same wreck. The officer’s unit was struck by a wrong way vehicle on Cardinal Driver at
MLK in Beaumont.
