The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man whose body was found on May 5th in the Neches River. Items near the body help identify the man as 35-year old Desmond Gerard O’Hara of Beaumont. O’Hara had been reported missing in February by family members. The cause of death has yet to be determined. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 883-2612.
Beaumont police arrested a man Wednesday morning for making a prank call claiming that a student at the Pathway Learning Center in Beaumont was holding a teacher hostage at gunpoint. Beaumont police and BISD police evacuated the building following the phone call. The investigation continues.
Entergy-Texas reports up to 1,800 customers in the Winnie-Dayton area lost power early this morning as the result of strong winds. Several trees were knocked down as well. All the power was restored by late yesterday afternoon. A lightening strike from the storm caused a storage tank fire in western Jefferson County. The tank, on Highway 73 near Labelle Road, burned for about five hours. There were no injuries reported.
A preliminary autopsy on a body that was found in the Neches River near the I-10 Bridge this past Thursday has revealed the body is that of a 5-6 Hispanic male approximately 30 years old.
