On this date in 1954, RCA announced they would begin making color TV’s. the cost for a 12 ½ inch model would cost around 1,000.00. Now, think about what a thousand dollars would buy then? A really good second hand car. For another 500.00 you could buy a new one. At two bits a gallon, you could get 5,000 miles of gas mileage. Another four thousand and you could buy a decent house. Five round trip Airline tickets. Or 350 steak dinners. Now you can buy a 60 inch color, HD TV for about a thousand dollars. Or a down payment on a five year Old car. Or a love seat for the home you couldn’t even look at for a thousand dollars. Get the picture? Supply and demand. If you wait long Enough, you’ll get a bargain. However, lets look at what a thousand dollars in today’s money would get you in terms of health care. On second thought, let’s not look.
