A new study found that mothers now make 19 trips to the supermarket every month. Apparently hectic schedules, unannounced guests and hungry kids mean it is impossible for mothers to limit their shopping to one trip a week. Mothers typically now carry out three 'big' supermarket shops each month, and make an additional nine trips to the shops for little supplies. 8 in 10 say they often end up buying things they had never planned to purchase, spending an average of $17 extra during each trip.
