The newest statistics out show the US is competitive with all countries around the world in math and reading. This is especially good news for me. I would hate to think today’s kids are as dumb as I was in school. Now we didn’t have any aids like Kindle’s to read from or hand held calculators to solve math problems but today’s students are learning Algebra in the fourth and fifth grade. I couldn’t handle it as a high school freshman. I think today’s young ones are at least for the most part, more insightful than we are. I see my grandkids and see in them the ability to do things I would have had difficulty with. However, I had no television, no I-Phone or I-Pad and no computers. But then that’s not an excuse. My dad had no electricity as a kid and he did all right. I think we do what we have to survive and if today’s kids can do that, they will be all right. Anyway it is good news to hear we are not “dumbing down” our off spring. That is, if you can believe the statistics.
