Among the world’s greatest musicians, you will always find the name Van Cliburn.

Very unassuming, but so talented a gentleman who walked this earth and loved every minute.

Born in Kilgore, Texas Van Cliburn loved his music and his mother. He did something in Moscow few have ever done.

He soothed the savage beast with his music. He probably did more to further relations during the cold war than any other American.

He was a good friend to Texas and a good friend to many here locally in southeast Texas. He played for Ben Rogers at his funeral.

He sold more classical records than virtually any other American.

He was a humble man, who made light of his super accomplishments and yet was so steadfast in his will to please.

He will be missed dearly by those of us who love classical music and the piano.

Though he is at rest his music will live on.
